Castronomics?

Castronomics?

"No one country can afford to spend more than what they have," he said during a ceremony peppered with praise for his convalescing older brother, Fidel. "To have more, we have to begin by producing more, with a sense of rationality and efficiency."

- Raul Castro

Efficient Communism? Wouldn't that be like an "affectionate rape?"

It's great that Raul finally admits that the problem under communism is central planning. They have had no better success than anyone else in the world at creating wealth under this 19th Century failed economic model. The US embargo evidently is not a pertinent factor as Raul admits. He correctly points out that Cubans can't afford to spend - so even if there was no embargo they got not jingo to buy squat! So when poor Cubans squat they must finish off with Granma. Sometimes something so very regular like toilet paper, can condemn a regime to death and expose it for what it is, better than any weapon of destruction.

They have been repeating the same shit for 50 years down there: efficiency. No efficiency when there are no incentives, the only incentive is to steal, so go on stealing Cubans, what you steal from that shit gov. is yours for the taking, that is what they castros did from 59 on, they stole the island so you down there steal to your satisfaction, what's good for the goose is good for....

Sorry for the bad language amigos. I have no respect for this guy and I'm Cuban. These guys are so predictable in their centrally planned world. For example Trogger here works a 13 hour day being Raul's bitch. We all know he is not making much more than 50 cents per day plus whatever he can steal or shakedown from the weak. He is a miserable excuse for a person, living a miserable life and he knows it. It is only the large quantities of alcohol which he consumes that dull his senses enough so he can stomach his disgusting existence. Trogger now knows I know him and what he's all about. However, having said my piece, come over to our side Trogger and we can let bygones be bygones. I feel that no one deserves to be someone's slave. Let us show you how to get a substantial pay raise and excellent benefits while engaging in personally fulfilling endeavors.

Good deal troglo! I guess I got a bit angry but forgive me as I was under deadline pressure at work. But now I've just about finished doing the work on my truck and my stress level has decreased substantially.

I really want Cubans to be paid more and own the homes that they live in too. The trouble with our capitalists system here as with Raul's business venture is labor is heavily taxed but land location value, especially in Western nations is heavily subsidized leading to land hoarding and speculation. This drains the just earnings of labor. It is what causes the poverty here. If we tax the high dollar business locations in a future Cuba the well kept secret is the capitalists WILL pay for the social services for the people. But in addition laborers will need less help under a free labor economy. You follow my plan and in 5 years Cubans WILL be wealthier than the average American. Remember, success is the best revenge. Let me show you how to be successful under a system that is immensely more fair than either the system Cubans or Americans live under. Have I got a deal for Cubans. Again sorry for the rudeness. I'm human and a Cuban.

Ok, Tomas. I underestand very well your point of view about the future cuba's economy.I agree but the people in the island dont want to loose the free health and education, etc. The better formula is a social democracy, like Sweden, Austria, etc. Folow the gentleman's blog and search his article "Mi gobierno simpatico". The best cubans blogs are Cuban Triangle, Herejias, Cuaderno de Cuba, Gentleman and Encuentro. If you programm for Cuba is a comback to 1957 you are death. Tok

Blogger Tomás Estrada-Palma said...

No my program is nothing like anything currently or any like in the past. It is a new system. If you read Henry George's "Progress and Poverty" you will see exactly where I am coming from. Here is a shortened version in Spanish:

http://www.eumed.net/cursecon/textos/h-george/index.htm

Let me know what you think. Things like food and health care are only a problem if your economic system is not balanced and producing adequate wealth. This is the case in Cuba and more and more so here in America. Not producing is what Raul was talking about. But if ALL Cubans could generate enough wealth then they could buy whatever they wanted. My plan makes the capitalist holding the nicest land pay for most social services. As for the form of democracy for Cuba, that has to be solved by the Cuban people themselves and not me. But I'd love to be involved in implementing a new system. Let me know if I can help.

Tomas, thanks for the reference and the web site in Spanish. I know some authors mentioned by George. Im a troglo but a great reader.I agree with George's thesis, of course, an with others contemporary authors. The people behavior, the attitude, is the angular stone for the development. The frame:freedom. Tok

No better reading than Adam Smith's dudes. The proven time and again reality with so called "progressives" is that they are pure utopia (fluff bullshit to be plain), socialists and the like when it comes to technology cannot get themselves out of a wet paper bag so lets not even talk about feeding the masses, today cagastro depends on cash sales of rice by the evil capitalists to the North for one week's worth of chow out of four in a month. Consider that the left's greatest prize was named after a capitalist inventor who had the "Novel" idea to make dynamite, the only invention credited to the commies is the AK47 which is now sold in the most capitalistic manner. Progs can only make shit nobody eats like movies and Chomsky like lit, baseless documentaries and failed marxist economics, when it comes to feeding people they are a resounding failure as shown after they murder all the peasants or tie garbage bags around the heads of anyone capable of producing food (Kmer Rouge I'm glad I put plenty of hot Montana slugs into many of them SOBs) demand and supply meet in price and that is what we need in Cuba, don't 50 years of crap show you socialist/progressive tinkering sucks?

George referred to Adam Smith extensively in his writing and even improved and expanded on on Mr. Smith's thinking. Even Karl Marx had good things to say about Henry George. My belief is the communists AND the neo-capitalists were both wrong and using antiquated thinking. But I want you to know my motives are pure. My wife and I now make a very comfortable living and I could just ignore the entire situation with respect to Cuba. However, it saddens me to see you Troglo and the other 11 million Cubans doing so poorly. Lets forget about the past and concentrate on building a good future for all Cubans. I really want to help. What I advocate is truly revolutionary! It has never been tried before. It will allow all Cubans to create more than enough wealth to provide for ALL the needs of the individual, his family, the community and defend the nation and provide for the infinitely small number of people who will still need help under any system, i.e. some children, the old, sick. mentally ill, etc. But I already know how smart you and the other 11 million Cubans are. I will put our tribe up against any other! But lets be honest with one another as I think Raul was alluding to. Cubans are not free to use their labor to better themselves directly under the current system and this has led to them not producing very much for anyone. Help me free this potential tiger of the Carri bean. Please believe me Troglo. We are all Cubans who have problems with how the US government has treated us all. Imagine if we all unite under a new economic model, which allowed poor Cubans to virtually overnight transform themselves from beggars to wealthy people. We already are enlightened - perhaps the most so of any people on the planet. Who knows more about politics than Cubans? This system would let Cubans on the island stay and own their homes. It would permit them to freely use and keep the fruits of all their labor. It would highly tax the capitalists' land holdings value but not income. Because holding urban land fallow would not be financially profitable all urban land would be used to its most efficient potential. Naturally this building and renovation boom would require lots of labor driving up wages and benefits. With Cuba now a country composed of a wide vast middle class of enlightened, socially conscious people, with a tiny percentage of both super rich and extreme poor, it would be the shining beacon to the rest of the world of how to run a country.

Again, my apologies for the rude words. They were uncalled for.

All right so we are not Germanic Vikings so who cares about Sweden or Austria?, we are brown people from a Caribean island, what does that island have?: People shown to have great mercantile attitude, outstanding incomparable natural attactions within three flight hours of major population centers in the capitalist world, nickel, tabacco and used to have sugar cane, lets work on that:
The peoples' entriprising attitude should be let unrestrained in creating attractive banking schemes to bring in the $$$ under a system of strong judicial support like in Caiman Islands or Panama, they can do it ,why can't we? they are as brown as we are. Notice that those two countries hardly have an army but pretty much count on the U.S and Britain for that ( in my plan we would have no army but a strong police force independent of any central or local goverment, we do not need an army when we can work a deal with the yanks for national defence, they have more fire power than anybody in human history, why spend our money on that?)We would guarantee a financial shelter system to entice the $$, euros and yens, it would offer sheltered bonds that we would use to invest in the best vacation land in the world that a strong police force would keep safe and healthy for family vacations when they are freezing their butts in Minniapolis and London, they come in and warm up to our beaches and fine happy people while checking banks where they invest and save the taxes they are pillaged for in their cold territories, with that we can also develop a fine surgical industry to take care of their lard butts and other maladies because we will have an over abundance of medical people coming back from all the idiotic internationalist missions, again high supply of doctors and specialists, high demand for such services in a friendly, safe, well regulated industry equals low price, all that within a confortable ride in Virgin Atlantic from Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas, etc, I say Virgin Atlantic because I beleive we will be an OPEN MARKET to all that bring us honest money, demand and supply will take care of our work force who would be encouraged to form unions or not form unions, the current slave labor BS will be over with pronto, now. Next is nickel, we have the greatest nickel reserves in the world only that today we give it away to Canadian colonialists in strip mining operations, no more. We will develop a SS series steel industry by having our own computerised foundries for smelting with iron ore for sheet, tube and extrusion SS, anybody can invest on that but we will not give away the slurry and powder to the Canadians, we will sell processed SS and employ our engineers and technicians along with anybody who offers a fair investment, our oil is a sulfur toxic hell polluting crap and we will cease extracting in exchange with development of a new sugar cane industry for ethanol production, again we will offer development bonds for anyone employing Cubans or anybody else in the Island, new from get go sugar cane cultivation and fuel production for self sufficiency like Brazil, even better because we have the entrepanurial spark to not only produce more and be self-sufficient but export the staff too, tabacco and citrics will be modernized to occupy the leadership they once had in the world since we have the one and only best land for that that with modern crop techs and up to date marketing will put all the other fake wanna bees to shame, with all of that we will generate more than enough revenue to give everyone education, housing again will be a free market deal, just imagine how interested Home Depot would be in replacing the decrepit housing situation in Cuba today, health care with so much influx of low paying fat slobs from the world would be so cheap to the regenerated work force with all of the above that it should be also a demand and supply meet in price arrangement with the government out of that business, insurance schemes will galore by employers, unions and individuals, another more thing that will need to be overhauled is the transportation network so neglected now since they really don't want to allow easy moving around for obvious reasons, the capitalist influx generated above will more than attract investments in a "interstate" highway system and airport/seaport upgrade to promote the travel industry of which the airline, tour and cruise market attracted with total open door policies to our incomprable attractions, so who needs to be like the Swiss? we are better...

With all of the assets that you so aptly delineated which the Cuban people possess it is hard to believe a system could be designed where we could fail. But we have so that must be recognized and the above thinking would go along way towards releasing this locked up Cuban potential. Almost never is it bad people in an organization...it's a bad system.

I agree with the anonymous point of view. We do not need any army in Cuba because that is just a waste of human and financial resources that could be devoted to other more important things to improve and benefit the people. Costa Rica does not have an army and they are doing just fine, thank you.
Let the Cuban people apply their know-how, their intelligence and their abilities and the future will be different and brighter. All one has to see if how productive they have been outside of Cuba without any restraints and the bureaucracy imposed by the communists. We have a well educated work force, great natural resources, marvelous weather all year around to produce enough food to feed ourselves and plenty for export. We are near most major markets in the Americas and even Europe. All we need is to free ourselves from this yoke that has been choking us for the last 48 years. Central planning has never worked anywhere, even the dumbest person in the world knows that if they are not blinded by ideology. Let the market forces work and things will sort themselves out. This rectal orifices that say that Raul is going to do this and that and things will change for the better are whistling Dixie. Until the Cuban people are free to produce freely and without any bureaucratic restraints in total freedom nothing will change. As former President Clinton would say: Is the system, stupid! Change the system and our life will change and improve dramatically in a few years.
